Tree Planting
For over a decade the Izaak Walton League of America: Fairfield Chapter has worked with the City of Fairfield Parks and Recreation Department, Butler Soil and Water Conservation District, and schools within the City of Fairfield. To date, this partnership has planted 1354 white pine trees in Fairfield Parks.
Each year one school is selected to participate. During trips to the parks, in the Spring and Fall, all of the 4th graders at that school get to plant their own tree. Over the last few years, trees have been planted along the bike path at Water Works Park, at the City's Golf Course, in Harbin Park, and at Joyce Park at Wake Nation.
This program has evolved into an essay contest. On returning to school, each of the students writes an essay about their experience and what they have learned. Two winners are selected and they each win a bike and helmet, donated by a local business.
