Supervisor Elections

Elections will be conducted by the Ohio Soil and Water Commission during the Open House from 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm.  The term of current Supervisors Barb Reisenauer and Terry Stephens will be expiring on December 31, 2011

There are three ways  eligible voters can cast a ballot:

  1. at the annual meeting on November 17th, between the hours of 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm;
  2. in person at the Butler SWCD office from 8:00 am until 12:00 pm on November 17th; or
  3. vote absentee by requesting the proper absentee request forms by November 11th from the SWCD office at 1802 Princeton Road, Suite 300  Hamilton, OH 45011.

To be eligible to vote residents must be at least 18 years old and reside within the District. Firms, corporations, LLCs, trusts and non-residents that own land or occupy lands in Butler County must have an affidavit on file with Butler SWCD attesting to be 18 years or older and eligible to vote as a non-resident landowner, a representative of the identified firm, corporation, LLC, or trust.

Nomination Petition Procedure

Individuals interested in running for Supervisor for the Butler SWCD may pick up a petition form at the SWCD office at 1802 Princeton Road, Ste, 300, Hamilton, Ohio. Potential candidates need to secure at least 10 signatures from Butler County residents and/or landowners. Petitions and signatures must be to the district by the close of business 5 weeks prior to the election (October 13). Candidates meeting the eligibility requirements and deadline will be listed on the ballot for the special election, taking place on November 17, 2011 at the Butler SWCD office. Currently we have the following candidates: Jack Jacquemin, Barbara Reisenauer, and Terry Stephens

Board Responsibilities

The five member board of supervisors is responsible for developing and administering the conservation assistance programs offered through the Butler SWCD and conducted in Butler County. They are public officials, serving without pay, responsible to the people of the district and state.

Candidates

Jack Jacquemin

… is a resident of Liberty Township.   He and his wife Linda have three daughters and a son.  Jack has recently retired from Talawanda High School where he was an Agricultural Education Instructor for 22 years.  Before that he taught at Lakota High School for 14 years.  At both schools, the agricultural curriculum has included soil and water conservation concepts for both rural and urban land uses.  As a result of this classroom instruction, students consistently ranked at the top in the State of Ohio in both rural and urban land management Career Development Events.  There were several 1st place soils teams that went on to participate in National events.   Jack is currently on a state committee to update rural and urban Career Development Events and the instructional materials for these contests

Jack has served in a number of different capacity over the years including; 4-H advisor for 10 years, Junior Fair Adult Advisor to the Swine Department for 34 years, FFA Advisor for 36 years, member on the Ohio FFA Board of Directors and with the Ohio Agricultural Teacher’s Association held positions of Chaplin, Vice-President, President, and Past-President.  He is also a Farm Bureau Member, St. Julie Catholic Church member, past member of the Butler County Cooperative Extension Advisory Committee, and a past member of the Farm City Tour Committee.

Jack is interested in continuing current natural resource management programs and encourages new ideas to promote soil and water conversation.  He feels that informing and educating the public are priorities in disseminating information about soil and water conservation. 

Barb ReisenauerBarbara Reisenauer

…incumbent, is a resident of West Chester Township.   She and her husband Daniel are the parents of two daughters, Lisa and Laura.  Barb has earned degrees in geology and engineering and is a licensed engineer with the State of Ohio.  Her work experience includes ten years of employment with CG&E and General Electric.

Barb also served as District Stormwater Engineer with Clermont County SWCD in 1990 and 1991, where she was responsible for the county’s experimental permit program established to address non-farm earth disturbing activities.

Barb’s community activities have included serving as a Girl Scout leader and a Girl Scout unit manager, responsible for coordinating over 500 girls and 150 adult leaders.  She also directed Girl Scout summer camp for two years at Camp Timberhill, for some 300 participants.  In addition, Barb served as a Board member for Heritage Village, a restored nineteenth century collection of houses that provides educational programs for schools located at Sharon Woods Park.  Barb is also completing her third term on the Butler Soil and Water Board, where she has served has served as Vice-Chair and Chairman, and currently serves as Secretary.  

Terry StephensTerry Stephens

… and his wife, Wanda, live on Beissinger Road, where their rural property provides food, shelter and water for a wildlife habitat.   Terry understands ground water dynamics, sensitivity to pollution and the importance of soil and water conservation. Through teaching he has a comprehension of weathering, soil formation, erosion, depletion, and soil conservation.

Terry is retired from Edgewood City Schools. Within his 38 years of teaching Earth science and physics at Edgewood Schools, Terry has written science curriculum, worked as a Science textbook consultant for Glencoe Publishing, ran the driver education program for over 25 years, was the science dept. chair for nearly 30 years, chaired the Edgewood High Building Budget Committee, and held various office positions within the Edgewood Teachers Association.  For two years after retiring from the classroom, he assisted in the Board Office as the Science Curriculum Coordinator.   

Terry is completing his first three year term on BSWCD board. He said he spent his first year observing and learning. He jokingly said that included over 150 acronyms commonly used by those associated with Soil and Water, Ohio Federation, and NRCS.  He had to keep his Board Member Reference Guide handy!

The second year he served as secretary on the board.  And presently serves as vice-chair of the board.  In the two plus years he has made multiple trips to Columbus to represent BSW and the residents of Butler County.  He also served twice as Butler’s delegate to the Ohio Federation’s annual meeting.

He states that his main goal is to assist the BSWCD educational and outreach program.  By doing so he can continue to use his extensive educational background to promote conservation through education. He promises to work with the other board members and employees to strengthen BSWCD if elected for his second term of office.

Election Legal Notice

The Ohio Soil and Water Conservation Commission will cause an election of Supervisors of the Butler Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) to be held in accordance with Chapter 15:15 of the Ohio Revised Code on November 9, 2010 at Butler SWCD at 1802 Princeton Road, Hamilton. Two candidates will be elected for a three year term, starting January 1, 2012. The nominees areJack Jacquemin, Barbara Reisenauer, and Terry Stepehns.

To be eligible to vote you must be of legal voting age (18 years) and reside within or own land within Butler County.

You may vote at the Open House on Nov 17, 2011  from 3:00 p.m. to  7:00 p.m., or on the day of the election (Nov 17)  from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at 1802 Princeton Rd, Hamilton, OH 45011. Absentee ballots may be obtained by requesting the proper absentee request forms from the SWCD office at 1802 Princeton Rd #300, Hamilton OH 45011. Requests for absentee ballots must be received in writing by the Butler SWCD office, between Oct 19 and Nov 11. Or, you can visit the Butler SWCD office and request an absentee ballot in person between Oct 19 and Nov 9.
