Water Testing
There are numerous labs that your water can be sent to for testing. Depending upon what you would like the water to be tested for, it can cost varying amounts. A list of contractors has been compiled by Butler SWCD, which includes water testing laboratories.
Butler County Stream Team
The Butler County Stream Team is a volunteer organization that collects water samples each month from creeks and rivers around the county. By collecting samples from the same locations each month, the stream team hopes to develop a picture of stream quality in Butler County.
To have a stream near you tested each month, all you have to do is collect a water sample each month and drop it off for testing. Clean bottles are available at several locations.
If you would ike to volunteer to assist with the actual testing, the lab is always looking for more volunteers. No experience is necessary. More information about how to collect a sample, sampling dates, and drop off locations are on the Stream Team website.
To conserve the lab resources, the Stream Team does not process samples of drinking water, well water, or pond water. The focus is on the quality of the streams and rivers in Butler County. If you would like to have water tested from these locations please view the contractors list for a lab.
