Butler SWCD is in search of the biggest Oak trees in the county. Put your Oak Tree to the test with Butler SWCD's Big Tree Contest! Enter for the chance to win the title of Biggest Red Oak or Biggest White Oak in Butler County. See eligible species below.

How to Enter: Big Tree Contest
1. Nominate
Read Contest Guidelines below. Fill out and submit a nomination form below. Email butlerswcd@bcohio.gov OR deliver in person to Butler SWCD office. Forms must be submitted no later than October 31, 2025, at 4:30pm.
2. Site Visit
Butler SWCD staff will contact you for a site visit. An ISA Certified Arborist will measure and verify your big Oak tree using tools and methods as outlined by ODNR Division of Forestry Big Tree standards.
3. Wait for Results
Data collection runs from July 1 - October 31, 2025. Two winners will be announced in November 2025. The landowners of each winning category will receive a handmade commemorative plaque. Decisions will be final.
Resources
Only native oak species (Quercus spp.) are eligible for nomination. See Contest Guidelines for eligible species.
Categories include Biggest Red Oak and Biggest White Oak of Butler County. One winner announced for each category.
Nominated tree scores will be determined by trunk circumference, total height, and average crown spread as outlined by ODNR Division of Forestry Big Tree measuring standards. Winners will be determined by highest score. All decisions will be final.
